Inter Miami striker Luis Suárez has received an additional three-match suspension in Major League Soccer due to his involvement in a post-match altercation during the Leagues Cup. The league announced the decision on Monday, confirming the ban after its disciplinary committee reviewed the incident.
Suárez had already been sanctioned by Leagues Cup organizers for his role in the confrontation, where he appeared to spit on a Seattle Sounders staff member following Miami's elimination from the tournament. MLS stated that the additional punishment was necessary, citing conduct deemed 'detrimental to the league'.
The suspension will apply to upcoming MLS matches against Charlotte FC, Seattle Sounders (a Leagues Cup final rematch), and D.C. United. Neither Suárez nor Inter Miami have publicly commented on the extended ban, which is effective immediately.
In a related disciplinary action, Seattle Sounders staff member Steven Lenhart, who was involved in the post-match incident, has had his credential privileges revoked for the remainder of the 2025 MLS regular season and postseason. According to the league, Lenhart will only be permitted in public seating areas during Seattle home matches and is barred from being on or near the field, locker rooms, or tunnel areas.
