9-Time NBA All-Star Walks Back Critical Ace Bailey Take

Philadelphia 76ers All-Star Paul George initially criticized top NBA Draft prospect Ace Bailey in June 2025 after Bailey refused all pre-draft workouts, including a scheduled session with the 76ers shortly before the draft. George questioned Bailey's approach, stating "If I’m Ace Bailey I can’t get mad if my stock drops," citing concerns about locker room fit due to Bailey's refusal to participate in team evaluations.

George later retracted his criticism on his podcast 'Podcast P,' expressing regret for judging Bailey's decision. He acknowledged Bailey's talent and right to choose his own path, stating "How can we get on a kid that kind of knows what he wants?" George emphasized that Bailey proved his ability during Summer League and respected his choice to "trail blaze" his own way, concluding "Everybody has their own path."

Despite reports indicating Bailey preferred Brooklyn or Washington, he was selected fifth overall by the Utah Jazz after sliding past Philadelphia (pick 3) and Charlotte (pick 4). Initial concerns about Bailey potentially rejecting Utah subsided when he fully participated in the NBA Summer League.

George, who had previously praised Bailey's impressive single NCAA season at Rutgers, maintained his admiration for the rookie's game and expressed support for Bailey's upcoming career with the Jazz, even though they won't be teammates in Philadelphia.
