Alex Palou dominated the Java House Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, further solidifying his position at the top of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES standings. Driving the No. 10 DHL Chip Ganassi Racing Honda, Palou won from pole position, leading 84 of the 95 laps.
This victory marks Palou's second consecutive win at Laguna Seca and his third win at the track in the past four years. His maximum points haul from the weekend, combined with Pato O'Ward's fourth-place finish, extended his championship lead to 121 points with only three races remaining in the season.
While Palou still needs to clinch his third consecutive series championship and fourth in five years, his lead is commanding. Effectively, only O'Ward remains a mathematical contender, but he would need to win all remaining races to threaten Palou's position; all other drivers have been eliminated from title contention.
Palou described the weekend and his season as "awesome," calling Laguna Seca one of his favorite tracks. This win is his eighth victory in 14 races this season. This achievement ties him with five other drivers in series history for eight wins in a season, making him the first to reach that mark since Sebastien Bourdais in 2007. Only A.J. Foyt (10 wins in 1964), Al Unser (10 in 1970), and Mario Andretti (9 in 1969) have won more races in a single INDYCAR season.
