Alexander Isak wants to explore transfer options away from Newcastle United, potentially disrupting manager Eddie Howe's summer plans. The 25-year-old Swedish striker was omitted from last week's friendly against Celtic due to "speculation" surrounding his future and subsequently missed the pre-season trip to Singapore with a thigh injury. Newcastle has been informed of Isak's desire to consider his future at other clubs.
Manager Eddie Howe had privately expressed concerns about Isak's situation to prominent club figures earlier this summer, preceding recent reports linking Liverpool to the player. Newcastle's official position remains that Isak is not for sale, a stance strengthened by his three-year remaining contract, and there are currently no talks about a new deal. However, an offer around £150 million could test their resolve, especially given the player's openness to a move.
The feasibility of such a transfer is uncertain, as only about eight clubs could afford the fee, and almost none possess the necessary Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) headroom or squad need. Liverpool, publicly linked last week, have just signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79 million. This move, coupled with Newcastle's interest in Ekitike, makes Liverpool unlikely suitors for Isak this window, particularly as they view Ekitike as their primary number-nine. Liverpool's stance is they are comfortable with their centre-forward options, though a move for Isak hasn't been entirely ruled out. Potential exits of Darwin Nunez or Luis Diaz could alter the situation; Bayern Munich has spoken to Liverpool about Diaz, but no formal offer has been made.
