Angel Reese Nears Suspension as WNBA Technical Foul Tally Mounts

Chicago Sky player Angel Reese achieved a historic milestone during her team's 91-68 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on July 22nd. Despite the defeat, Reese scored 11 points and secured 11 rebounds, recording her 10th consecutive double-double this season. This performance makes her the first player in WNBA history to have multiple streaks of at least 10 double-doubles in her career. Her first such streak occurred during her 2024 rookie season and set the league record with 15 consecutive double-doubles.

However, the game also featured a negative incident for Reese. She received a technical foul in the first quarter after being fouled while driving to the basket. While the exact reason for the technical is unclear, it appeared to result from something she said to a referee or a Lynx player. This marks Reese's seventh technical foul of the season, accumulated in just 23 games played by Chicago.

Under current WNBA rules, which were adjusted from 7 to 8 technicals for a suspension when the season expanded from 40 to 44 games, Reese is now only one technical foul away from receiving an automatic one-game suspension. Consequently, Reese will need to be on her best behavior for the remainder of the season to avoid missing a game due to suspension.
