Are Celtic fans right to worry about squad depth before new season?

Pre-season friendlies provided mixed results for Celtic, with a 4-0 win over Newcastle United followed by a concerning 5-1 defeat to Ajax. This heavy loss has prompted anxiety among fans, with some expressing fears about the team's lack of depth and ambition.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has publicly stated his desire for squad reinforcements before the Scottish Premiership title defence begins in nine days. Celtic have made several signings this summer: left-back Kieran Tierney returned after his Arsenal contract expired, Scotland goalkeeper Ross Doohan and forward Callum Osmand joined on free transfers, Hayato Inamura and Shin Yamada arrived from the J-League, and Benjamin Nygren also signed, making six new arrivals overall.

However, Rodgers emphasized the need for further transfers even before the Ajax defeat, specifically highlighting gaps in the forward areas. He stated, "I think we still have some work to do... I think it's very clear where our gaps are - in our frontline, where we need support," expressing confidence more signings would be made before the transfer window closes.

The departure of key striker Kyogo Furuhashi to Rennes in January was never adequately replaced, and the recent exit of Nicolas Kuhn to Como has further depleted the team's attacking options, removing goals and assists from Rodgers' forward line.
