Barcelona confident of closing agreement with 24-year-old star

Barcelona are not planning further signings this summer but must complete key business, including player sales for La Liga registration and contract renewals for several first-team stars.

Following the recent finalization of a new deal for Jules Kounde, sporting director Deco will prioritize contract talks with Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia, as both players have contracts expiring in less than 12 months. Negotiations with de Jong's representatives are expected soon, and talks with Garcia could also commence.

Although reports previously suggested Eric Garcia was close to a new agreement, progress has been slow. However, both Barcelona and Garcia are seeking a resolution soon, with the intention for the 24-year-old defender to stay at the club long-term.

While Barcelona aims to sell at least one centre-back this summer, head coach Hansi Flick has clearly stated he does not want Garcia to leave, valuing his versatility to play both centre-back and right-back.

Barcelona anticipates reaching an agreement with Garcia without problems, though it might take a few weeks. The club is aware Garcia is happy in Catalonia and prefers to remain in Flick's squad.
