NFL running back Bijan Robinson, preparing for his third season with the Atlanta Falcons in 2025, revealed during an appearance on NFL Network that his first name has been widely mispronounced. He clarified that the correct pronunciation is "buh-ZHAHN," not the commonly used "bee-ZHAHN."
Robinson first gained prominence as a standout player for the Texas Longhorns from 2020 to 2022. During his college career spanning 31 games, he rushed for 3,410 yards and scored 33 touchdowns. This performance led to him being selected 8th overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2023 NFL Draft.
In his first two NFL seasons with the Falcons, Robinson has validated his high draft selection. He rushed for 976 yards and 4 touchdowns as a rookie in 2023. His second season saw a significant jump in production, where he emerged as a star, rushing for 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns. Throughout this time, the mispronunciation of his name persisted.
As Robinson enters training camp for the 2025 season (which began on July 24), he aims to correct the pronunciation of his name. He is expected to be a focal point of the Falcons' offense once again, especially after receiving 90 more carries in his second season compared to his first. He will start the season working with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The Falcons open their season against the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Baker Mayfield on September 7.
