Brentford have emphatically declared that attacker Yoane Wissa is not for sale, determined to prevent a complete dismantling of their squad following the £71 million departure of Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United, the exit of captain Christian Norgaard, and the departure of head coach Thomas Frank.
Despite reported interest from Newcastle United and Wissa's own desire for the move, Brentford remain adamant about retaining him. Newcastle reportedly submitted a £25 million bid, which was rejected. Newcastle currently view Wissa as a secondary target to Alexander Isak (who has expressed a desire to leave) and are also considering RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
Brentford's reluctance stems from the significant attacking contribution Wissa made alongside the now-departed Mbeumo; the pair combined for 39 Premier League goals last season. While no official price tag has been set, Brentford's valuation of Wissa has significantly increased following Mbeumo's sale, with reports suggesting they would only consider offers in the region of £40 million or more.
The club is acutely aware of the risk of losing both key attackers without replacements. They have yet to sign a replacement for Mbeumo, with talks for Ipswich Town's Omari Hutchinson stalling over the payment structure, though Brentford remain hopeful of reviving the deal.
Under new manager Keith Andrews, Brentford seeks stability. Supporters, while frustrated by Newcastle's pursuit and Wissa's apparent willingness to leave, find reassurance in the club's hardline stance. They fear selling Wissa without an immediate replacement, especially after losing Mbeumo and Norgaard, could severely weaken the team and risk a relegation battle, as rebuilding the attacking partnership would take significant time. The prevailing fan sentiment is that the time to sell Wissa has passed, and the focus should now be on strengthening the squad rather than further sales.
