Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly open to a surprising third stint as manager of Real Madrid after the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he is currently coaching the Brazil national team. This follows his second departure from Real Madrid in June, with Xabi Alonso taking over as his replacement, and Ancelotti beginning his first-ever role as a national team coach with Brazil.
Ancelotti's contract with Brazil is set to expire after the 2026 World Cup, and there is significant pressure on him to deliver Brazil's first World Cup title since 2002. Brazil has already secured their spot in the tournament, adding to the expectations surrounding his tenure.
In an interview with ESPN, Ancelotti expressed openness to extending his contract with Brazil if the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) offers it. He stated that he is happy with his current role and that his family is also content, suggesting he could potentially stay until 2030, with discussions about his future to be held after the World Cup.
However, in a separate interview with French outlet L’Equipe, Ancelotti clarified that Real Madrid is the only club he would consider managing after his time with Brazil. This indicates a strong preference for a return to the Spanish club, despite his current commitments.
Reflecting on his previous season at Real Madrid, Ancelotti cited challenges such as numerous injuries to key defenders like Militão, Rüdiger, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, and Dani Carvajal, which made it difficult to field a solid defensive lineup and support the team's attacking quality. He mentioned instances where they had to rely on inexperienced players like Raul Asencio from the academy, contributing to a complicated season without the desired success.
