Chicago Stars FC announced the re-signing of midfielder Bea Franklin, securing her with the club through 2027. Franklin, originally the team's 2024 NWSL Draft third-round pick from the University of Arkansas, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to start her professional career in Chicago and her commitment to building and fighting for the club, its fans (the Beehive), and the city, stating she has high expectations for the team's future.
Chicago Stars general manager Richard Feuz praised Franklin's development, noting that while initially known for physicality and aerial dominance, she has proven to have many strengths and become a weapon for the team, expressing pride in keeping her in Chicago.
Franklin earned a one-year contract with a club option for 2025 after a strong preseason. She made her professional debut on March 29, 2024, and scored her first NWSL goal on September 1, 2024. She became a consistent starter in the second half of her rookie season, starting 12 of 16 appearances (1,111 minutes). She excelled defensively, ranking second on the team and eighth in the league in aerial duels won (47), and her 21 interceptions were only surpassed by two veteran teammates.
In 2025, Franklin shifted to a more defensive role, starting 10 of 11 appearances. She leads the team in interceptions (18) and is tied for the team lead in blocks (8), ranking eighth league-wide in the latter. She also contributed offensively, assisting the Stars' first goal of the 2025 season in the home opener against Houston on March 23.
Beyond her on-field performance, Franklin is recognized as a stellar teammate and community member, frequently volunteering for club initiatives focused on educating children, aiding those impacted by homelessness, combating food insecurity, and increasing soccer accessibility. She participates in youth camps and has worked with organizations like Higher Ground USA and Girls Inc. of Chicago. She was the club's 2025 nominee for the NWSL Lauren Holiday Impact Award for her off-pitch service and character.
The Chicago Stars, including Franklin, will participate in the Teal Rising Cup in Kansas City from July 12-15, facing Corinthians SC on July 12th. The winner advances to a match on July 15th. The team returns to NWSL play against Gotham FC at home on August 1st.
