Chiefs All-Pro Reportedly Gets Major Contract Update

The Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers are scheduled to play on Friday, September 5, in Brazil. Meanwhile, the Chiefs, defending AFC champions, have been in discussions regarding a contract extension for their star cornerback Trent McDuffie over the past few months.

According to ESPN's Nate Taylor, citing sources, an agreement on a multiyear extension is not expected before the start of the season. McDuffie, selected 21st overall in the 2022 NFL draft by the Chiefs using a pick acquired in the Tyreek Hill trade, has proven his value with strong performances, including two All-Pro selections, 43 regular-season games, two interceptions, and seven forced fumbles in three seasons.

McDuffie is set to earn $2.6 million in 2025, with the Chiefs exercising his fifth-year option guaranteeing $13.6 million for 2026. Chiefs GM Brett Veach confirmed ongoing dialogue, emphasizing McDuffie as a priority, though a deal remains unresolved. McDuffie expressed focus on the upcoming season rather than contract concerns.

For context, Sauce Gardner, another top cornerback from the same draft class, recently signed a four-year, $120 million extension. Projections suggest McDuffie could secure a three-year, $97 million contract, potentially exceeding Gardner's average annual value.
