Chinese Taipei repeat against Philippines to secure fifth place

Chinese Taipei secured a fifth-place finish in the FIBA U16 Women's Asia Cup 2025 by defeating the Philippines 103-72 in a dominant performance at the Karisma Arena in Seremban, Malaysia. The victory capped off their campaign with a 3-2 record after narrowly missing the semi-finals.

The game saw Chinese Taipei start strongly with a 21-7 lead and extend it to 50-31 by halftime, eventually cruising to a 31-point win. This marked a repeat of their group phase victory over the same opponent, whom they had beaten 74-48 earlier in the tournament.

Gao Zi-Qiao led the way with an outstanding performance, scoring 26 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, dishing out 11 assists, and making 3 steals, resulting in an efficiency rating of 44. She was supported by Chang Yu-Tung, who recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds, along with 6 assists and 4 steals, while Lin Nian-Zhen contributed 16 points, including four three-pointers.

The team showcased excellent ball movement with 34 assists, as nine players scored at least one field goal, highlighting a well-executed offensive strategy. Defensively, Chinese Taipei was equally impressive, racking up 16 steals to control the game.

For the Philippines, Ryanna Roman led the scoring with 19 points, and Makeena Ramos added 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists. The Philippines finished the tournament with a 1-4 record in their inaugural Division A appearance.
