Cowboys add two defensive backs via NFL waivers

The Dallas Cowboys have added cornerbacks Trikweze Bridges and Reddrick Steward to their 53-man roster via waivers, requiring corresponding roster moves. The team waived cornerbacks Andrew Booth and Zion Childress to create space, though both could potentially join the practice squad if they clear waivers.

Tyrus Wheat, previously waived by the Cowboys, was claimed by the Detroit Lions. Wheat had developed from an undrafted free agent in 2023 into a key special teams and defensive depth player, but was ultimately affected by a logjam of talent at the edge position.

Trikweze Bridges, a former seventh-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers, played collegiately at Oregon before transferring to Florida. He will reunite with rookie linebacker Shemar James in Dallas. Reddrick Steward, an undrafted free agent who spent time with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings, was a two-time First-team All-Sun Belt selection at Troy.

The moves come amid uncertainty at cornerback, with Trevon Diggs' availability in question and rookie Shevon Revel starting the season on the reserve list. The Cowboys are also finalizing their 2025 practice squad, which will include players such as Traeshon Holden and Will Grier.
