Cuttino Mobley, a retired NBA shooting guard, has expressed strong dislike for the modern style of basketball in the NBA, criticizing the heavy reliance on three-point shooting. He specifically highlighted Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards as an example, noting that Edwards increased his three-point attempts by four per game this season but only raised his scoring average by two points, questioning the effectiveness of this approach.

Mobley openly acknowledged that his views would label him a "hater" and preemptively declared himself one, stating, "I'm a hater. I'mma just say it... I'm old." He argued that the league's current strategy doesn't make sense statistically. Pointing out that teams average 37.6 three-point attempts per game with a 36% success rate, he contended they should logically be scoring more points overall. However, he noted the league average actually decreased slightly to 113.8 points per game from 114.2 last season despite the increased three-point volume.

He fundamentally criticized the shift away from interior play, stating, "You're going from three-point line to three-point line. No one's going inside the paint." Mobley used the Edwards example again to underscore his point about inefficient scoring gains from more three-point shots, asking, "Anthony Edwards takes four more threes a game this year and averages two more points. You tell me what math that is." He sees the current trend as a flawed method.
