DeSean Jackson, the incoming Delaware State football coach, secured a significant transfer by landing former Sacramento State quarterback Kaiden Bennett. This move, announced on Saturday, comes shortly after Jackson observed Sacramento State's roster building.
Bennett, described as an impact performer, had a strong 2023 season with Sacramento State: 2,192 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, 577 rushing yards, and six rushing touchdowns. He led the Hornets to the second round of the FCS Playoffs and notably engineered a historic win over FBS Stanford, Sacramento State's first-ever victory against a Power Conference team. In that Stanford game, Bennett accounted for 379 total yards (including 100 rushing). He leaves Sacramento State ranked 18th in school history for career passing yards (2,508) and third in career completion percentage (62.5%).
Bennett's transfer is particularly timely for Jackson and Delaware State. Just the day before (Friday), Delaware State's starting quarterback, Marqui Adams, announced his departure via the transfer portal. Adams, who played in 19 games for the Hornets (16 touchdowns, 12 interceptions), was one of the last players remaining from the previous coaching staff. Jackson moved swiftly to fill this sudden vacancy by acquiring Bennett.
