Explained: The changes coming to Fantasy Premier League 2025-26

Fantasy Premier League 2025/26 introduces several significant new features and rule changes. A major update rewards defensive contributions: defenders earn 2 points for achieving 10 combined clearances, blocks, interceptions, and tackles in a single match, while midfielders and forwards earn the same for reaching 12 defensive actions (including ball recoveries). This change particularly enhances the value of centre-backs and defensive midfielders.

Strategic depth increases with the introduction of two full sets of chips per season. Managers receive one set for the first half of the campaign (usable before Gameweek 19) and another set for the second half, providing a total of eight chips. Chips from the first half do not roll over. The Assistant Manager chip has been removed, making chip usage more crucial.

Two new invite-only elite global leagues are launching, exclusively for high-performing managers from the previous season, adding a new layer of elite competition beyond traditional mini-leagues and overall ranks.

Fantasy assist rules are being simplified for greater transparency, focusing on crediting the final pass before a goal while reducing subjectivity. Additionally, to help managers cope with player absences during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), free transfers will be topped up to a maximum of five in Gameweek 16.
