The Miami Dolphins may consider trading star wide receiver Tyreek Hill in 2025 due to a decline in his production during the 2024 season. Hill finished with less than 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2019, a regression attributed largely to quarterback instability caused by Tua Tagovailoa's injuries. Backup quarterback Tyler Huntley struggled in five starts, posting a low QBR and poor passing averages, impacting Hill's output significantly. Hill had only a few standout games and recorded minimal production in eight games.
Hill's future with the Dolphins is uncertain, especially after he expressed frustration with the team. His high-profile talent makes him an attractive trade target for teams needing wide receivers. However, his current contract with the Dolphins is substantial – a three-year, $90 million deal – which could be a hurdle for some teams.
At least five NFL teams are identified as potential suitors who could benefit from acquiring Hill: the Washington Commanders, Houston Texans, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers, and Baltimore Ravens. A key factor for Hill is that all these teams possess established franchise quarterbacks, a contrast to his situation in Miami with the injury-prone Tagovailoa. Furthermore, the coaching staffs of these teams (Jim Harbaugh, John Harbaugh, Demeco Ryans, Dan Quinn, Ben Johnson) are seen as proven or successful, unlike the Dolphins' perceived offensive identity issues under Mike McDaniel.
Reasons pushing Hill towards a trade include Tagovailoa's unreliability, the Dolphins' consistent inability to win playoff games, and the team's position in an AFC East division dominated by the Buffalo Bills, limiting their ceiling to Wild Card berths. Given Hill's talent and the Dolphins' current limitations, a trade to a contending team appears increasingly likely.
