Former Reading High basketball star Lonnie Walker IV has signed with EuroLeague powerhouse Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to multiple reports. This marks Walker's move after playing for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, his fourth NBA team.
Walker's contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv includes specific buyout provisions: an NBA buyout clause valid until August 1, along with additional buyout options on July 15, 2026, and July 15, 2027. His free agency status resulted from the 76ers declining his $2.9 million team option before the June 29 deadline.
During his tenure with the 76ers, where he signed a two-year, $3.7 million deal on February 21, Walker averaged 12.4 points across 20 games. His standout performance occurred on April 13 against the Chicago Bulls, where he scored 31 points—including eight three-pointers—in a season-ending loss.
Walker's basketball roots trace back to Reading High, where he led the team to the 2017 state championship against Pine-Richland. In that decisive 64-60 victory, he contributed 22 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists. His senior year accolades included being named a McDonald’s All-American and Pennsylvania’s Mr. Basketball.
