Chris Anstey, one of Australian basketball's most accomplished figures, visited Shepparton, making it a significant day for SEDA students who wouldn't want to miss his appearance.
Anstey began his career with NBL teams Melbourne Tigers and South East Melbourne Magic, winning a championship with the Magic. He then advanced to the NBA, playing for the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls. After three years in the NBA and a stint playing in Russia, he returned to Australia.
Back in Victoria, the 2.13m center dominated the NBL in his final playing years, securing two Most Valuable Player awards during championship-winning seasons with the Tigers.
Following retirement, Anstey transitioned to off-court leadership, coaching the Melbourne team in the NBL for three seasons. His primary impact, however, has been mentoring younger generations through coaching with SEDA.
On Wednesday, the basketball pioneer led a motivational session at Shepparton Sports Stadium. He shared stories from his journeyman career and conducted skill development workshops for enthusiastic SEDA students.
