Birmingham City are reportedly interested in signing La Liga winger Carlos Vicente from Alavés this summer. The 26-year-old Spanish player, who joined Alavés from Racing de Ferrol in January 2024, primarily operates on the right wing but can play across the front three or as a centre forward.
Vicente contributed 10 goals (7 goals and 10 assists) in 57 appearances for Alavés last season, playing a key role in helping the club avoid relegation with a 15th-place finish in La Liga. Birmingham City manager Chris Davies is said to admire the player.
Birmingham's strong financial position makes them serious contenders for the signing. The club has been among the Championship's biggest spenders this summer, acquiring players like Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray, and Bright Osayi-Samuel. Their ambitious ownership group provides an excellent budget as they target back-to-back promotions to the Premier League.
Former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Terry Gibson endorsed the potential move, stating on the "El Tel and Jon’s La Liga Weekly" podcast: "Oh I love watching Carlos Vicente. I think he’s fantastic," adding that Birmingham's financial muscle could be decisive in securing the transfer, which would be "a bitter blow to Alaves."
