Real Madrid is expected to sign a new central defender next summer due to uncertainties surrounding the continuity of Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba. The club holds strong interest in Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate, though he is not the only player being monitored by officials.
Konate could join Real Madrid as a free agent since his Liverpool contract expires in June, a situation also applicable to Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, who has less than 10 months remaining on his deal.
Real Madrid’s interest in Upamecano has been confirmed by Christian Falk, noting that PSG, Manchester United, and especially Real Madrid are interested if he leaves Bayern. The La Liga club has previously signed Alaba and Rudiger on free transfers, and acquiring Upamecano without a fee would be an ideal solution. Bayern risks losing him if they do not meet his wage demands.
Despite some high-profile mistakes, Upamecano has proven to be a quality central defender, similar in ability to Konate. Real Madrid may pursue whichever of the two does not renew with their current club.
It remains uncertain whether Upamecano will be signed, but he would be a valuable addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad. Future contact between the parties will be worth monitoring in the coming weeks.
