Ben Simmons, a three-time All-Star previously linked to the Golden State Warriors as a trade target and free agent option, may be nearing the end of his NBA career. According to reports, he is considering whether to continue playing in the league as he searches for a new team after finishing last season with the L.A. Clippers.
This possibility increased significantly after his agent, Bernie Lee, who also represents Jimmy Butler, decided to drop Simmons as a client. Lee played a key role in Butler's move to the Warriors and his subsequent contract extension, making this separation unusual. Simmons' decline has been sharp, and the idea of him exiting the NBA entirely by age 29 is surprising.
Simmons was once a rising star who signed a five-year, $177.2 million contract after his rookie deal. Even during his fallout with the Philadelphia 76ers after the 2021 playoffs, he still held trade value. For example, the Warriors reportedly rejected an offer from the 76ers that would have sent Simmons to Golden State in exchange for Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, and four first-round picks.
Although the Warriors were frequently mentioned as a potential destination for Simmons before he was traded to the Brooklyn Nets, recent links have faded. Earlier in free agency, there were suggestions he might join the Warriors, but no major reports have emerged recently, especially with Jonathan Kuminga's future unresolved, leaving Simmons' NBA prospects in doubt.
