Jody Brown has transferred to Olympique de Marseille Féminin in the Arkema Première Ligue, officially ending her one-year spell with Benfica. The club announced the move on Friday, welcoming the winger who will wear the number 11 shirt for the newly-promoted French top-tier side. This marks Brown's second professional club since graduating from Florida State University.
During her season at Benfica, the 23-year-old Jamaican international made 21 appearances, scoring four goals and providing one assist. Her best performance was a brace in Benfica's 5-0 victory over Clube de Albergaria. She also featured in all three of Benfica's matches at the inaugural World Sevens Football tournament against Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and AS Roma. Primarily used as a substitute, Brown started only 10 games but departed with two major trophies: the Liga Portugal Betclic title and the Taça da Liga Cup.
Brown seeks improved success in France, though she faces a challenge with Marseille. Despite the men's team's stature, the women's side has a turbulent history, including disbanding twice and periods of inactivity. Reformed in 2011, the club has spent much of the past decade fluctuating between divisions and is now returning to the top flight for the first time since relegation in the 2019-2020 season.
She joins a group of Jamaican Reggae Girlz with experience in French football, including Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw, Allyson Swaby, Deneisha Blackwood, Chantelle Swaby, and Yazmeen Jamieson.
