La Salle holds off Adamson; transferees Amos, Cortez deliver in clutch

La Salle began their UAAP Season 88 men's basketball campaign with a narrow 60-58 victory over Adamson at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on September 20. The win was sealed by clutch performances from newcomers Jacob Cortez and Mason Amos in the final moments of the game.

With Adamson leading 56-53 late in the fourth quarter, Cortez scored two consecutive baskets to put La Salle ahead 57-56 and drew a crucial offensive foul. Amos, who had struggled offensively throughout the game, then hit a decisive three-pointer with 7.9 seconds remaining to secure the win for the Green Archers.

La Salle head coach Topex Robinson acknowledged Adamson's competitive style, noting they force opponents into low-scoring games. Mike Phillips led La Salle with 17 points, 16 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 steals, while Cortez contributed 16 points in his UAAP debut. For Adamson, Cedrick Manzano posted 19 points and 9 rebounds in the losing effort.
