Bundesliga expert Christian Falk reports that Chelsea attacker Christopher Nkunku is not a high priority target for Bayern Munich at this moment.
Chelsea has been active in the summer transfer window, securing deals for players including Jorrel Hato and attacking trio Jamie Gittens, Liam Delap, and Joao Pedro. While strengthening the squad, the club also needs to offload several players, with Nkunku being one of them. Although Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, Djordje Petrovic, and Kepa Arrizabalaga have departed, a solution for Nkunku's exit hasn't been found yet. The 27-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Leipzig for £52m in 2023, is considered surplus to requirements and is expected to leave this summer.
Interest in Nkunku has come from Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest, while Manchester United and Bayern Munich have also previously shown interest. Chelsea has reportedly reduced their asking price for Nkunku to £43.3m, down from over £60m in January when Bayern's interest was stronger.
However, Falk indicates Bayern's interest has cooled significantly. He stated in his Bayern Insider column: "It’s all calmed down at the moment with Christopher Nkunku and Xavi Simons. The latter is a very hot option for Chelsea. Nkunku is also not particularly high up on the list and will remain that way for as long as a decision is yet to be made on Woltemade."
As Chelsea works to move Nkunku on, they are concurrently negotiating with Leipzig to bring in Xavi Simons. Leipzig is said to want a total package of £60m for the 22-year-old Simons, though Chelsea hopes to pay less. Simons is reportedly close to agreeing personal terms and wants to join Chelsea, but the Blues likely need to complete a few sales before finalizing the deal.
