Liverpool chairman Tom Werner has publicly discussed his reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold's controversial transfer to Real Madrid. The defender's decision caused significant uproar among Liverpool fans, particularly because it initially appeared he might leave for free after spending 20 years at the club since his youth. Although Liverpool ultimately secured a £10 million fee from Real Madrid, allowing Alexander-Arnold to join early and play in the Club World Cup, many supporters were angered due to the prolonged uncertainty surrounding his contract situation and its apparent run-down.

Werner admitted that he and other Liverpool club chiefs shared the disappointment felt by the fanbase regarding the departure.
