Liverpool have reached an agreement to sell forward Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for a total fee of £65.5 million. Diaz, who still has two years remaining on his contract with Liverpool, has been granted permission to leave the club's pre-season tour in Asia immediately and is expected to travel within the next 24 hours.
Bayern Munich's initial offer of approximately £58.5 million (€67m) was rejected by Liverpool. However, the German champions returned with a second, improved offer of £65.5 million (€75m), including add-ons, which Liverpool accepted after deeming it represented full market value for the player.
Throughout the summer transfer window, Liverpool had been reluctant to sell a key first-team player. Despite this stance, Diaz and his representatives actively pushed for the move to Bayern Munich. The player had first expressed a desire to leave during the summer of 2024, but Liverpool resisted at that time while evaluating their squad and the transfer market.
Prior attempts by Liverpool to extend Diaz's contract failed twice due to a gap between the club's offers and the player's demands. Following Diaz's contribution to Liverpool winning their 20th Premier League title, the club ultimately agreed, albeit reluctantly, to his request to depart.
