Manchester City remain interest in PSG superstar – Contract talks at a standstill

Both Manchester City and Manchester United remain interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer. Despite progress on domestic transfers, City continues to monitor elite goalkeeping options amid potential changes to their squad.

Manchester City is close to finalising a £31 million deal to sign James Trafford from Burnley, a record fee for a British goalkeeper. While Ederson is increasingly likely to stay at City despite previous transfer links, Stefan Ortega's future is uncertain as he seeks a number one role, attracting interest from Premier League and Bundesliga clubs. City has already replaced outgoing veteran Scott Carson by signing Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea.

Due to the instability surrounding Ortega and the need for long-term planning, Manchester City has explored other goalkeeping targets including FC Porto’s Diogo Costa, Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, and Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio. Regarding Donnarumma, L’Equipe reports that his contract extension talks with PSG have been stalled for several months with no progress since the Club World Cup. It is claimed Donnarumma privately discussed leaving PSG before the end of the 2024/25 season, with both Manchester clubs still in the race to sign him.
