P.J. Washington, forward for the Dallas Mavericks, has agreed to a four-year, $90 million contract extension with the team, as confirmed by his agent Kevin Bradbury. The deal ensures Washington will remain with the Mavericks through the 2029-30 season. He had one year remaining on his previous contract worth $14.1 million, and with this extension, he becomes ineligible to be traded during the 2025-26 season.
This extension is part of the Mavericks' efforts to secure their key players this offseason, with the team having already reached agreements with All-Star Kyrie Irving and center Daniel Gafford on three-year extensions. Washington, who was the 12th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, spent his first four and a half seasons with the Charlotte Hornets before joining the Mavericks at the trade deadline in February 2024.
Washington played a crucial role in the Mavericks' run to the Finals in the 2024 playoffs, starting in all 22 games. During the 2024-25 season, the 27-year-old averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game, with shooting splits of 45.3% from the field and 38.1% from three-point range. He was one of only eight players last season to average at least one steal and one block while playing a minimum of 50 games, and he recorded 14 double-doubles, a significant increase from his previous three seasons combined.
With Washington's extension, the Mavericks now boast one of the strongest frontcourts in the league, featuring players such as Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford, and Washington himself. Washington is set to enter his seventh NBA season in October.
