The Memphis Grizzlies waived three players—Nate Hinton, DeJon Jarreau, and Braxton Key—following their preseason finale to reduce their roster to the required 18 players, which includes 15 standard contracts and three two-way contracts. This move came after the team secured their first preseason win against the Miami Heat, ending a four-game losing streak, and finalized their Opening Night roster for the 2025-26 NBA season.
Nate Hinton, aged 26, has appeared in 38 NBA games since the 2020-21 season and has been a standout in the G League, averaging 13.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.9 steals per game over 133 appearances. DeJon Jarreau, 27, previously impressed during the Grizzlies' injury-plagued 2023-24 season, averaging 4.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in nine games. Braxton Key, 28, has 37 NBA games of experience, including a rookie season with the Detroit Pistons where he averaged 8.6 points and 5.3 rebounds, and he has continued to make an impact in the G League.
Although waived from the main roster, all three players are expected to remain with the Grizzlies' organization by joining the Memphis Hustle in the G League, where they can develop and potentially earn future call-ups. The Grizzlies have filled their two-way contract slots with PJ Hall, Javon Small, and Olivier-Maxence Prosper, solidifying their team for the upcoming season.
With the roster finalized, the Grizzlies are now preparing for their 2025-26 regular season opener against the New Orleans Pelicans, shifting focus to the start of competitive play.
