B.C. Place has stated it maintains flexible booking arrangements with the Vancouver Whitecaps, including offering alternate dates for hosting the controversial 2024 wildcard playoff match. This statement comes as a response to public criticism made two days prior.
The criticism originated from Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber, who on Wednesday faulted B.C. Place for offering the Whitecaps a limited selection of playing dates. Garber specifically stated the stadium only made 17 dates available for home matches and also forced the Whitecaps to play a "home" playoff game on the road last fall.
B.C. Place officials directly contested Garber's claims. In a statement provided to Postmedia, they asserted that the commissioner's comment about only 17 days being available was a "misrepresentation." The stadium authority countered that, on average, they make more than 40 days available to the Whitecaps each season.
