Mohun Bagan Super Giant, an Indian Super League club, announced on 30 August that they have signed Brazilian winger Robson 'Robinho' Azevedo da Silva on a multi-year deal. The player moved from EC Agua Santa, a club in Brazil's Campeonato Paulista league.
The club made the announcement on social media with a celebratory message, stating, "The wait is over. The Samba is back in Kolkata! Robson Robinho is Green and Maroon." Robinho expressed his excitement, recalling his previous encounter with Mohun Bagan while playing for Bashundhara Kings and expressing confidence in replicating his success with the Indian club.
Robinho, a 30-year-old winger, has spent most of his career in Brazil, including stints with clubs like Fluminense. He moved to South Asia in 2020, joining Bangladesh Premier League side Bashundhara Kings, where he achieved significant success by scoring 64 goals and providing 49 assists in 97 appearances, including finishing as the top scorer in the 2020-21 season and helping his team win domestic titles.
He is expected to join Mohun Bagan's squad for their opening AFC Champions League 2025 group-stage match against FK Ahal on 16 September, as the club prepares for the competition.
