Memphis Grizzlies player Zach Edey resolved his reckless driving case on Wednesday by reaching a deal with prosecutors. The 23-year-old, who is 7 feet 4 inches tall, admitted to a speeding infraction and agreed to pay a fine of $639.50. In exchange, officials dropped the misdemeanor reckless driving charge he was facing.
The case originated from an incident on May 1st in West Lafayette, Indiana. Indiana State Police alleged they caught Edey driving his 2023 Kia Sorento at 101 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. According to the incident report, Edey acknowledged to the officers that he knew why he was stopped and stated he was speeding "to pass a vehicle."
Edey, coming off his rookie NBA season where he played in 66 games averaging 9.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, has now resolved the legal matter. It remains unclear if the NBA will impose any additional punishment following the resolution of his case, as the league has not yet responded to requests for comment.
