New York Knicks Could Explore Reunion With Former Guard

The New York Knicks are actively seeking to bolster the depth of their roster for the upcoming season, focusing on veterans with postseason experience who can step in if rotation players suffer injuries or performance slumps.

Bleacher Report analyst Greg Swartz identified former Knicks guard Alec Burks as a top available free agent, highlighting his role as a three-point specialist after he made 42.5% of his outside shots last season, ranking 14th in the NBA. Swartz noted that while Burks isn't as elite a shooter as Seth Curry, he provides stronger defense with his size and a defensive swing rating in the 80th percentile, making him versatile enough for a backup wing position where he can guard multiple positions and adapt to any system.

Burks, who has 29 games of playoff experience, has a history with the Knicks, having played for them twice before, including a re-acquisition in 2024. He first joined the team in 2020 and was traded to the Detroit Pistons in 2022, then returned in a February 2024 trade involving players like Bojan Bogdanovic and outgoing assets including Quentin Grimes and draft picks. Although former coach Tom Thibodeau, a Burks supporter, has departed, the Knicks could still pursue a reunion to enhance their perimeter shooting.
