Former NBA player Jeff Teague sparked debate by declaring Stephen Curry the greatest point guard of all time (PG), ranking him above Magic Johnson during an appearance on the Club 520 podcast. While acknowledging Magic Johnson's immense impact alongside Larry Bird in saving the NBA and making big point guards popular, Teague stated "No disrespect" but firmly chose Curry, calling him the best PG ever because "Steph saved everybody."
Teague challenged Bleacher Report's recent all-time top 100 player rankings, where Magic Johnson placed fourth and Stephen Curry placed tenth. He argued their positions should be swapped. His primary reasoning centered on Curry's height: Teague emphasized that Curry achieved his success and revolutionized the game at 6'3", whereas Magic Johnson, at 6'9", possessed a significant physical advantage and "could've played center."
When the podcast panel suggested Magic Johnson could guard Curry in a hypothetical matchup, but Curry couldn't guard Johnson, Teague vehemently disagreed. He dismissed the idea, stating "No. No. No. Have you ever seen Magic Johnson move? He had no chance in hell guarding Steph Curry." Teague recognized his stance, placing Curry definitively above the widely regarded Magic Johnson, is highly controversial and "bound to make many NBA fans angry."
