Indiana Fever announced that star player Caitlin Clark has no timetable for returning to play after further medical evaluations this week. The 2024 No. 1 draft pick will continue working with the team's medical staff on recovery and rehabilitation, with management emphasizing that her long-term health is the priority.
Medical tests confirmed no additional injuries or damage beyond Clark's existing right groin injury, sustained on July 15 against the Connecticut Sun. This injury caused her to withdraw as an All-Star Game starter and captain during WNBA All-Star Weekend, where she also missed the 3-point contest.
The 6-foot guard has missed 11 regular-season games plus the Commissioner's Cup final across three separate injury absences this season. Clark previously dealt with left quad and left groin issues before this current setback. In her 13 appearances this season, she averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds.
Despite Clark's absence, the Fever improved to 13-12 and sixth in the standings following Thursday's 80-70 home victory over the Las Vegas Aces. The team had been considered championship contenders at the season's start.
