Genoa has announced the signing of striker Lorenzo Colombo from AC Milan on a loan deal with an option to buy, potentially becoming an obligation under certain conditions for a total fee of €10 million. The 23-year-old completed the transfer, with reports indicating the obligation to buy is likely triggered if Genoa avoids relegation and remains in Serie A for next season.
For the announcement, Genoa creatively referenced historical explorer Christopher Columbus (Cristoforo Colombo in Italian), who hailed from the city. They marked the signing by releasing an image of Colombo styled to resemble an ancient portrait of the famous explorer.
Colombo is a product of AC Milan's youth academy. Prior to this move, he gained experience through loan spells at several Italian clubs: Cremonese, SPAL, Lecce, Monza, and most recently, Empoli.
He is arriving at Genoa after his most recent season at Empoli, where he achieved a personal best of six goals in 37 Serie A appearances. Despite his contributions, he was unable to prevent Empoli from being relegated to Serie B.
