OKC Thunder Center Hints Toward Team's Biggest Competition Next Season

Oklahoma City Thunder center Isaiah Hartenstein, during an appearance on Paul George's 'Podcast P' show, revealed that the Denver Nuggets presented the Thunder's toughest challenge during their NBA championship postseason run. Hartenstein stated the team felt "a little bit on the ropes" only against Denver, acknowledging the threat posed by Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets' experience, saying "even if we do everything right, they still probably have a chance."

The Nuggets series was one of two that went to a decisive Game 7 for the Thunder. Despite the perceived difficulty and the presence of reigning MVP Nikola Jokic making the final game seem uncertain, Oklahoma City secured a convincing 125-93 victory.

Looking ahead to next season, the Thunder, as reigning champions, anticipate being the primary target for every opponent during the regular season and the top priority to eliminate in the playoffs. While they return with their roster intact and are considered favorites to repeat, they recognize they will face strong competition.

Hartenstein's comments indirectly highlight the Denver Nuggets as a likely key rival again. The Nuggets have upgraded their roster this offseason, trading Michael Porter Jr. for Cam Johnson to add a consistent offensive threat alongside Jokic. They also re-signed Bruce Brown, signed Tim Hardaway Jr., and added Jonas Valanciunas.

Despite Oklahoma City's success in limiting Jokic during their previous series, he remains one of the world's best players. While other teams will contend, the improved Nuggets are positioned as potentially the most formidable obstacle in the Thunder's path to repeating as champions.
