The Las Vegas Raiders, under new head coach Pete Carroll, secured a 20-13 road victory against the New England Patriots, marking Carroll's first win with the franchise since taking over. This also handed Patriots coach Mike Vrabel his first loss at Gillette Stadium.
Carroll, who will turn 74 next week, became the oldest head coach in NFL history with this win, which was his first with a team other than the Seattle Seahawks since 1999. The Raiders started strong, scoring on their opening drive with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to Tre Tucker.
After trailing by three points at halftime, the Raiders dominated the second half. Ashton Jeanty scored his first NFL touchdown on a 3-yard run in the third quarter, and Daniel Carlson added two field goals to extend the lead. Smith's only mistake was a first-quarter interception that led to the Patriots' sole touchdown.
Tight end Brock Bowers had a standout performance with 103 yards on five catches, including a 38-yard reception, marking his third career 100-yard game. He left briefly with a knee injury but returned and stated post-game that he was fine.
The Patriots made a late push in the fourth quarter with Drake Maye leading a drive that resulted in a field goal, but the Raiders recovered the onside kick to seal the win. Maye finished with 287 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while Kayshon Boutte had 103 receiving yards for New England.
