Kyren Williams, a 25-year-old running back for the Los Angeles Rams, attended his alma mater, St. John Vianney High School, during the Rams' bye week, where his No. 20 jersey was retired in a ceremony. This event occurred as the school honored him for his contributions, making him only the fourth player in the Golden Griffins' history to receive this distinction, following a regular-season finale game against Belleville West.
Williams played a key role in leading St. John Vianney to two state championships during his high school career from 2015 to 2018, under coach Paul Day. In his senior year, he achieved remarkable stats, including 2,035 rushing yards, 725 receiving yards, and 40 total touchdowns, culminating in a record-breaking 289 rushing yards and a touchdown in the 2018 Missouri Class 5 state championship game. He also excelled defensively with 92 tackles, five sacks, and eight interceptions, earning him first-team all-state honors and the Class 5 Offensive Player of the Year award.
In an interview, Williams expressed deep gratitude for the honor, describing it as a blessing and a culmination of his hard work as a young athlete. He shared nostalgic feelings, wishing he could return to play for his high school team again, emphasizing the significance of the recognition and the history of the Vianney program.
