Marcus Semien hit a game-winning RBI single in the 10th inning, giving the Texas Rangers a 6-5 victory over the Atlanta Braves. This capped a dramatic game where Semien had been hit in the helmet by a 94.6 mph fastball in the third inning but stayed in the game. His winning hit came off Enyel De Los Santos after the Braves intentionally walked Corey Seager to start the extra inning.
The Braves had taken a 5-4 lead in the ninth inning. Michael Harris II hit a leadoff opposite-field triple (his fourth extra-base hit of the night) and scored on Sean Murphy's pinch-hit sacrifice fly. Harris finished 4-for-4 with two triples, an RBI double, a solo homer in the sixth that tied the game at 4, and scored three runs.
The Rangers forced extra innings in the bottom of the ninth. Josh Jung drew a walk, pinch-runner Sam Haggerty stole second, and scored on Jonah Heim's double off Braves closer Raisel Iglesias, resulting in Iglesias' fifth blown save.
Texas had led 4-2 in the third inning after Adolis García hit a two-run single. This followed the scary incident where Semien was hit by Grant Holmes' fastball on his helmet's ear flap. Semien scored on that play, along with Corey Seager, whose single extended his on-base streak to 25 games (now the longest active streak in MLB).
A key defensive moment occurred in the first inning. Atlanta thought it had a 2-0 lead on Ozzie Albies' single, but a successful Rangers challenge overturned the safe call at home on Matt Olson, after a replay showed Olson's leg was off the plate when tagged by Heim following García's throw.
Shawn Armstrong earned the win for Texas, pitching the final two innings. With this win, their fifth straight, the Rangers (55-50) have won four consecutive series and are five games over .500 for the first time since April 22nd.
The series finale will feature Atlanta's Bryce Elder facing Texas rookie Jack Leiter.
