Real Madrid have decided against bringing midfielder Nico Paz back from Como this summer, despite previously triggering an €8 million buy-back clause that has since expired. Manager Xabi Alonso, focused on defensive reinforcements and adhering to squad limits, has opted not to pursue alternative agreements for Paz at this time.
Paz was sold to Como for €6 million last summer under Carlo Ancelotti, with Real Madrid securing three future buy-back options (for 2025, 2026, and 2027). The first €8m option was activated earlier this summer but lapsed, and Alonso has now ruled out an immediate return.
The situation will be re-evaluated in 2026, contingent on Paz maintaining his performance level in Serie A. He enjoyed a strong debut season under manager Cesc Fabregas, playing a key role in Como's promotion and subsequent 10th-place finish in Serie A. Paz contributed 6 league goals and 8 assists during the 2023/24 campaign.
A similar performance level in the 2025/26 season will keep Paz under consideration at Real Madrid, even as Alonso plans to give opportunities to Arda Guler.
