Real Madrid is currently unable to sign new players unless they sell at least one first-team member. To address this and solve their midfield issues, the club is considering including current stars in a major deal to acquire their dream target, midfielder Rodri Hernandez. Madrid's midfield weaknesses were evident throughout last season and were highlighted again in a 4-0 Club World Cup semi-final loss to Paris Saint-Germain, intensifying their need to find a proper replacement for the retired Toni Kroos.
Rodri, 29, has emerged as Madrid's primary target. He was scouted by the club during the Club World Cup this summer, marking his return from an ACL injury suffered last September. According to reports, Real Madrid is prepared to make a move this summer, proposing a players-plus-cash deal. They are willing to offer Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo Goes to Manchester City, along with €40 million.
Madrid believes a deal is feasible because Rodri has less than two years remaining on his current Manchester City contract. However, Manchester City has already stated they will not entertain any offers for him this summer. If unable to secure Rodri in 2025, Real Madrid plans to pursue him next summer. Should Rodri not sign a new contract with City in the next 12 months, Madrid anticipates he could be available for €60-80 million in 2026, when his contract would have less than a year left.
