Hakan Calhanoglu is set to stay at Inter Milan this summer, despite transfer rumors linking him to Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. The 31-year-old Turkish international has returned to training with the club.
Under previous coach Simone Inzaghi, Calhanoglu played a pivotal role as the regista (deep-lying playmaker) at the base of Inter's midfield trio, a shift from his earlier box-to-box position.
However, new coach Cristian Chivu is reportedly considering a tactical change. Early indications suggest Chivu may abandon the three-man midfield in favor of a system featuring a two-man central midfield and two attacking midfielders behind a striker.
According to predictions in Gazzetta dello Sport (via FCInterNews), this potential system change could see Calhanoglu move into one of the attacking midfield roles, reminiscent of the positions he played earlier in his career at AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen.
