Reyne Smith, a former Louisville basketball player, has signed a two-year deal with the Cairns Taipans of Australia's National Basketball League, as reported by ESPN's Olgun Uluc. This move marks his return to his native Australia.
After going unselected in the 2025 NBA Draft, Smith recently participated in the NBA Summer League. He was originally signed to play for the Los Angeles Lakers' team but also appeared in a game for the Washington Wizards on just one hour's notice to fill an emergency roster spot.
At Louisville, Smith was the team's third-leading scorer last season, averaging 13.1 points per game, and ranked among the top three-point shooters in college basketball. He made 107 three-pointers (15th nationally), averaged 3.45 made threes per game (third nationally), and shot 38.3% from beyond the arc, which was second in the ACC behind Isaac McKneely.
Prior to Louisville, Smith spent three collegiate seasons at Charleston under now-Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey. In his final year there, he led the Cougars in scoring with 12.8 points per game, along with averages of 2.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists, earning All-CAA Second Team honors. Over 102 career games and 89 starts at Charleston, he totaled 1,212 points, 294 made three-pointers, 192 rebounds, 149 assists, and 68 steals.
