The Detroit Pistons have released forward Ron Harper Jr., who was on a two-way contract, as confirmed by the NBA's official transaction log.
Harper, undrafted out of Rutgers in 2022, spent his first year-and-a-half in the NBA on two-way contracts with the Toronto Raptors. After being released by Toronto in December 2023, he signed a training camp deal with the Boston Celtics last summer. However, he did not make Boston's standard roster for the 2024/25 season and was waived last October. Harper subsequently signed with the Pistons in early January but appeared in only one NBA game for Detroit.
Primarily playing in the NBA G League last season for the Motor City Cruise and Maine Celtics, the 6'6" wing appeared in 37 games (29.6 MPG). He averaged 16.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 steals per game, shooting 38.6% from three-point range on 8.2 attempts per contest.
The Pistons currently have a two-way qualifying offer extended to Daniss Jenkins and are reportedly signing Colby Jones to a two-way deal. If Jenkins accepts, all three of Detroit's two-way slots will be filled.
With only three years of NBA experience, Harper remains eligible to sign another two-way contract with a different team. He is the son of former NBA veteran Ron Harper and the older brother of Dylan Harper, who was selected No. 2 overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the recent NBA draft.
