Ross County have appointed former Dundee manager Tony Docherty as their new boss. The 54-year-old was dismissed by Dundee at the end of last season after finishing 10th in the Scottish Premiership.
Despite his recent dismissal, Docherty guided Dundee to a top-six finish in the 2023-24 campaign and received nominations for both PFA Scotland Manager of the Year and Scottish Football Writers' Manager of the Year. Prior to his tenure at Dundee, he served as Derek McInnes' assistant at several clubs including St Johnstone, Bristol City, Aberdeen, and Kilmarnock.
Docherty's primary task will be to secure Ross County's immediate return to the Scottish Premiership following their play-off defeat to Livingston in May. The club's previous manager, Don Cowie, departed after a poor start to the Championship season, with interim manager John Robertson having overseen a recent 2-2 draw against Dunfermline Athletic.
Ross County chief executive Steven Ferguson expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, stating that Docherty brings extensive experience, leadership, and alignment with the club's values and long-term vision. Ferguson emphasized confidence in Docherty's commitment to integrating with the club and community as they aim for promotion back to the top flight.
The club acknowledged the high quality of applications received during the hiring process and thanked all candidates, marking Docherty's appointment as the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Ross County.
