The Scottish Premiership enters its third round with a reduced fixture list, as Aberdeen and Hibernian have postponed their matches against Dundee United and Falkirk respectively to focus on European play-offs. Celtic and Hearts are the only teams with maximum points so far, while Aberdeen remains without any points.
Rangers have struggled at the start of the season, drawing both of their Premiership matches and suffering a 3-1 defeat to Club Brugge in the Champions League qualifiers. They risk going without a win in their first three league games for the first time since 1989, especially with an upcoming match against Celtic after the return leg in Belgium.
St Mirren, who host Rangers on Sunday, are aiming to extend their unbeaten run against them to four matches. They previously drew 2-2 with Rangers in April and won 2-1 on Boxing Day, also securing their first win at Ibrox since 1991. Although they haven't scored in the league this season, their confidence is high after knocking Hearts out of the Premier Sports Cup on penalties.
Rangers' head coach Russell Martin is rebuilding a squad that had only eight away wins last season, while St Mirren's Stephen Robinson operates with a smaller budget but has achieved three consecutive top-six finishes through strong organization.
Hearts' Stuart Findlay is joint-top scorer in the Premiership with three goals, just one short of his best return in the competition. He could become the first Hearts player since Rudi Skacel in 2005-06 to score in each of his first three top-flight appearances, having also scored on his debut in the League Cup.
