The 2025 Storm PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer Mixed Doubles tournament, also known as "The Luci" in honor of the late PWBA player Luci Bonneau, will take place in Houston from July 24-27. This year marks the event's 25th anniversary, having raised over one million dollars for breast cancer since its inception in 2000.
Anthony Simonsen and Danielle McEwan enter as the two-time defending champions. McEwan has won three of the past four Luci tournaments, including the 2021 title with EJ Tackett. While Simonsen and McEwan are undefeated together in this event, they also have a history of competing together for Team USA.
EJ Tackett, who won three Luci titles between 2018 and 2022 with different partners, will compete for the fourth consecutive year with Diandra Asbaty, his partner for their 2022 victory. This tournament holds significant PBA Tour historical importance for Tackett as it is the final event where pinfall counts towards season averages.
Tackett, currently averaging 229.43 across 370 games this season, is close to breaking Jason Belmonte's 2017 record average of 229.39 (set over 380 games). His performance this weekend will determine if he surpasses that record.
The tournament format involves all players bowling seven qualifying games on a 41-foot oil pattern. The top quarter of the field after all squads will advance to Sunday's semifinals. Teams will then bowl four additional games, with the top 12 advancing to round-robin match play. The team with the highest total pinfall after match play wins the title; there is no stepladder finals. All rounds feature singles games with combined scores making the team total (no baker doubles).
All rounds will be livestreamed on BowlTV. More event details are available on the Striking Against Breast Cancer website and Facebook page.
